Data sourced from the Gun Violence Archive and Overture Maps Foundation
- The heights of the hexagons show the risk level of being a gun victim. The data is normalized by population. The map is also colored by risk level.
- Recent Incidents are the dark colored dots. On hover/touch, these show details about the incident.
- Click or Touch the hexagons, and a popup will show a graph of all shootings since 2014, broken down by year.
- Buildings show the same data: gun violence relative to population within a 0.5 mile radius of a building.
Political Leanings
Data sourced from The Upshot/New York Times and shows 2020 general election results.
- The heights of the hexagons show the total votes in a given area, while the color shows which candidate won, and by what margin, so the darker the color, the higher % for that given candidate. White denotes a swing area (< 5% either direction)
- Hovering or touching a hexagon with show a graph of who won the area.
- Higher zooms show precinct level information: one dot = one vote, these are randomly distributed inside a precinct. They show the density of each precinct's voters
- A hover or touch identifies the precinct, as well as which candidate won and their vote counts
Food Availability Index
Data sourced from Overture Maps Foundation.
- The heights of the hexagons show the food accessibility per capita in an area. It is easy to identify Food 'deserts', or the opposite in a given area. Included are 'grocery stores','warehouse clubs','restaurants','cafes','coffee shops', and 'pubs'
- The map colors also show the food accessibility per capita. A hover/touch shows a roundup of the numbers of each amenity tyle
- Buildings show the same as the above, but the hover shows the amenities within 0.5 mile
Home Prices per Square Foot
Data sourced from Realtor.com® Economic Research. and US Census TIGER Shapefiles
- The map colors show housing affordability on a per square foot basis. The darker the color, the more expensive.
- Counties are used to show the data at lower zooms. On Hover/Touch, The county name is used, followed by a trend arrow for the price change year over year, shown as a percentage. The listing price per square foot is shown, as well as the count of active listings, and finally, the average number of days on market.
- Zip Codes are used at higher zoom levels and show the same data, but in more detail, and in 3D. The heights of the zip codes corresponds to the median listing price per square foot.
- The data is updated monthly.
